Copan Ruinas
Copán Ruinas is an ancient Maya city located in western Honduras, near the Guatemalan border. Renowned for its stunning archaeological sites, Copán was a significant cultural and political center during the Classic period of the Maya civilization (5th to 9th centuries AD). Celaque National Park

Exploring Forests, Ruins & Peaks
Day 1: Arrival & Rawacala Rainforest
Your journey begins with arrival at San Pedro Sula Airport, followed by a transfer to the charming Paraiso Rainforest Hotel. Situated near the Rawacala Rainforest Private Reserve, this tropical paradise offers breathtaking views of Omoa Beach and the opportunity to spot bird species such as the Smoky-brown Woodpecker, Slaty-tailed Trogon, and Montezuma Oropendola.
Day 2: Rawacala Rainforest & Copán Ruins
Explore the 10,000-hectare Rawacala Private Nature Reserve, where tropical trails lead you through lush vegetation and stunning views of Omoa Bay. Bird species like the Long-billed Gnatwren and Hook-billed Kite are common sights. After lunch, you’ll head to the mystical city of Copán, home to one of the most important Mayan archaeological sites in Central America.
Day 3: Copán Ruins & Transfer to Gracias Lempira
Delve into the history of the ancient Mayan citadel of Copán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Birdwatching within the ruins allows sightings of species like the Scarlet Macaw, Collared Trogon, and Elegant Euphonia. After exploring Copán, you'll travel to the charming colonial city of Gracias for an overnight stay.
Day 4: Celaque Mountain & Lake Yojoa
Begin the day at Celaque National Park, part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, featuring a blend of ecosystems that host a variety of endemic species. Look out for the Sparkling-tailed Hummingbird, Lesser Roadrunner, and Turquoise-browed Motmot. Later, visit Lake Yojoa, passing through the Counselor Private Reserve, where you can spot the Magnificent Hummingbird and Rufous-browed Peppershrike.
Day 5: Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park & Wetlands
The area around Lake Yojoa is home to over 500 bird species, thanks to its diverse ecosystems, from wetlands to cloud forests. Spend the day exploring the trails of Cerro Azul Meámbar National Park and the lake’s wetlands, with the chance to observe over 100 bird species in a single day.
Day 6: Transfer to Airport
Conclude your journey with a transfer back to San Pedro Sula International Airport.
